McGill Outdoors Frosh

Camping Frosh

DAY ONE → Drive to Lac Stukely Campground in Parc national du Mont-Orford, where we will set up camp and eat some lunch. Then we will hit the lake, swim, explore the campsite, and play some games. In the evening we will make a scrumptious dinner, have a fire, play more games, and eat some s’mores!

DAY TWO → Wake up, eat breakfast, and pack lunches for the day as we will be going on a hike to Pic de l’Ours/Bear Peak! Afterwards we will take a refreshing, post-hike dip in the lake, make some dinner, and continue having fun into the night.

DAY THREE → Wake up, eat breakfast, pack up camp, and say goodbye to our lovely home for the past three days. Perhaps some morning yoga or a quick swim for early risers! Then, drive back to Montreal.

Canoeing Frosh

Group 1 (Frogs: aka advanced)

DAY ONE → Arrive by bus to Parc La Mauricie prepared to rock and roll and meet the best froshie group around. Have a scenic paddle through the park to the campsite and hang out with your group for the night. Have lots of fun games, good food and, most importantly, great vibes.

DAY TWO → Wake up excited because today is going to be a day. Get ready for some serious team bonding and character building with a day full of portaging and paddling. Then, wait for it, the falls! Have an exciting adventure for an even more exciting reward. All of canoe will go to the falls so maybe you’ll even run into your tadpole buddies. Return to the same campsite at night (yay home sweet home) and hang out after the awesomest day ever.

DAY THREE → Paddle out (boooooooooo) with some cliff jumping and beach stops along the way! Ride the bus back with your new favorite people and amazing memories to start the year off right.

Group 2 (Tadpoles (aka novice, aka Canewbies))

DAY ONE → Arrive by bus to Parc La Mauricie prepared to rock and roll and meet the best froshie group around. Have a scenic paddle through the park to the campsite and hang out with your group for the night. Have lots of fun games, good food and most importantly, great vibes.

DAY TWO → Wake up ready to hit the water! Spend the day paddling and go on an afternoon hike to the falls! Take in the beauty, potentially with your frog friends because SURPRISE: all of canoe frosh is going to the falls today! Paddle back and have a fun filled evening with your canoe buddies.

DAY THREE → Paddle out (boo) with some cliff jumping and beach stops along the way! Ride the bus back with your new favorite people and amazing memories to start the year off right.

Climbing Frosh

DAY ONE → Drive to Prévost to drop some things off at the MOC House, where we will go over some basic safety and technique skills. After a delicious lunch break we will head to Parc Régional Val-David to exercise some of the sick skills we learned! There, we will split up into two groups: a top rope group and a bouldering group. After a long day of climbing we will head back to the house for dinner and some activity options. Camp fire, lake swimming, karaoke, slackline…!!!!

DAY TWO → Wake up, eat breakfast, and pack lunches for the day to do it all over again! Time to conquer that project!! Froshees will also have the opportunity to switch groups on day two. After a scrumptious dinner there might be some tasty snack 👀.

DAY THREE → Wake up, eat breakfast, clean up, and say goodbye to sleeping like sardines. We’ll do a repeat of yesterday with options for hikes or other activities! When we’re all drained we’ll head back to Montreal… 🙁

Hiking Frosh

DAY ONE → Drive to Parc Regional Montagne du Diable in the morning, and have lunch by Windigo chutes. Chill out on the beautiful beach for a bit while we make sure everyone has all of the proper equipment and their bags are packed properly. Then we will do a short 6.2 km hike to the campsite with a small elevation gain. 5.4 km into this hike there will be another waterfall that we will stop to admire, Walter chutes. After arriving at the campsite, we will set up tents, begin to prepare dinner, and for those who are brave enough, there will be the option to go swimming! We will end the night with bonding time by the fire, and of course marshmallows.

DAY TWO → Break camp in the morning, breakfast, 7.8 km hike to the second campsite. This is the day with the most elevation gain, approximately 450 m. We can have multiple groups depending on readiness of froshies/speed/experience level. We will stop somewhere scenic along the way to have lunch and enjoy the view. 6.4 km into the hike, we will take a quick break at the summit of Mount Diable, one of the best viewpoints in the park!  We will arrive at the second campsite in the afternoon and have time to do a bunch of fun games and activities. Once again, we will have a nice campfire in the evening to end this long day.

DAY THREE → Break camp in the morning, breakfast, 8.9k hike to our final destination, Mountain lake. This is mostly downhill (yay!) so it shouldn’t be too bad.  If we have time before the bus arrives we can chill out lakeside and jump off the dock. We plan on having lunch at Accalmie “pond” and 2.9 km into the hike we will arrive at the summit of Garde-feu. Located here is the new 21 m tall observation tower showcasing a magnificent view of the beautiful Hautes-Laurentide region as far as the eye can see (definitely a must see). We will ride the bus back to Montreal with your new favorite people and awesome stories to share!
