Listserv Guidelines

The purpose of this email list is to announce trips and publish outdoor related mailings, and to otherwise provide a convenient way for outing clubbers to communicate with each other. Commercial postings are prohibited unless approved by the MOC executive (see the web page for e-mail addresses, else send a message to .

1) Keep your language nice and respectable

2) Keep the posts "on-topic" which means that only the following types of posts are allowed:

a) Trip announcements, proposed trips, or if you are looking for one. This only applies to outdoors activities, as opposed to trips related to somethig that has an impact on the planet Earth.
b) trip reports;
c) MOC meeting announcements;
d) any MOC trip related post (lost info, no deposit found, etc...)
e) request for a ride to the house;
f) personal gear sales;
g) official announcements from the exec;
h) pre-approved "special posts" - see below.

3) The following types of posts are absolutely not acceptable and will result in immediate removal from the list (you have been warned):

a) absolutely no "ride" requests to anywhere else except the house;
b) fund-raisers;
c) activities for another club;
d) for-profit adds for a business;
e) adds for not-for-profit organizations;
f) any add that solicits money or time from MOC members;
g) ABSOLUTELY NO ROOM MATE OR APARTMENT FOR RENT ADDS - EVER.

4) If you do have a "special post" that falls into category 3) above, you MUST email it to an exec first ( ). Someone will then let you know whether or not you can post your message - most of the time there shouldn't be any problems with the post, but we do need to have control over this aspect of the list. We also reserve the right to edit your post if we feel that it is necessary to do so.

NOTE: Newly authorized special posts will have a banner attached to them. This will tell you who authorized it, and when.

NOTE: Including a line that says something along the lines of "I'm really sorry, I know I'm not supposed to do this but..." does not suddenly make you exempt from following the rules like everyone else.

5) If you aren't sure, use your common sense - if you don't, and your post clearly abuses one of the above rules, we will just delete your account. If your post is controversial, or might otherwise be inappropriate, we will send you one email to tell you. If you repeat your post (or a similar one) after we email you, we will delete your account.

6) No flaming (personal comments etc...) or self-appointed listserv administrators.

Just in case you didn't know ... the McGill Outdoor Club is a group of folks who love the outdoors and try to get away from the city whenever they can.
Through the Outdoor Club you can run your own outdoor trip or join organized activities such as: Hiking and Backpacking, Canoeing, Cycle Touring, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Camping, Horseback riding, Caving, Cross Country Skiing, Alpine Skiing, Telemarking, Snowboarding, Snow Shoeing, Ice Climbing, Winter Camping, and more. There is no experience required to participate in most of our activities.
You can use this list for organizing or announcing trips or publishing other outdoor related stuff. If you are organizing an activity that meets the guidelines and rules above, and you would like to announce it to the MOC membership, just send a mail to
